Blanchard is the co-founder and chief spiritual officer of the Ken Blanchard Companies, an international management training and consulting firm that he and wife Margie began in 1979 in San Diego, California.
Blanchard’s impact as an author is far reaching. His phenomenal best-selling book, The One Minute Manager, co-authored with Spencer Johnson, has sold more than 13 million copies and remains on best-seller lists. His books, including the titles Raving Fans, Gung Ho!, and Whale Done!, have combined sales of more than 21 million copies and have been translated into more than 27 languages. He was inducted into Amazon’s Hall of Fame in 2005 as one of the top 25 best-selling authors of all time.
He is also the author of Lead Like Jesus. With simple yet profound principles from the life of Jesus and dozens of examples from his life experiences, he guides readers through the process of discovering how to lead like Jesus, the greatest servant leader in history. In this practical and transformational book, Blanchard describes a process of aligning two internal domains—the heart and the head, and two external domains—the hands and the habits. Blanchard also co-founded Lead Like Jesus, a nonprofit dedicated to inspire and equip people to become servant leaders.
Blanchard has received many awards and honors for his contributions to management, leadership and public speaking. He was inducted into the HRD Scholar Hall of Fame by Training magazine and Lakewood Conferences, and he received the Golden Gavel Award from Toastmasters International. The National Speakers Association awarded him its highest honor, the Council of Peers Award of Excellence. Blanchard also received the Thought Leadership Award for continued support of work-related learning and performance by ISA—The Association of Learning Providers.
Born in New Jersey and raised in New York, Blanchard received a master’s degree from Colgate University, and his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees from Cornell University. He spends time as a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, Cornell University, where he is a trustee emeritus. Blanchard also teaches students in the Master of Science in Executive Leadership program at the University of San Diego.
